TransportStaf asked us for an audit of their SQL Server 2022, recently migrated from SQL Server 2008. Thanks to our expertise and our CMM Metric Manager diagnostic tool, the audit revealed several problems :
- All database files were hosted on the same disk.
- Database collation and SQL Server collation were not the same, resulting in implicit conversions for each query
- Faulty security / needs to be strengthened.
- Performance issues caused by:
- Lack of indexing
- Incorrect configuration and alignment of the processor
- Lack of usable memory
- Poorly written and resource-intensive queries
- A SQL Server Enterprise trial license about to expire.
Consequences
Customers/users were very impacted and unhappy with performance and wanted a viable and permanent solution quickly.
First, we searched for and selected for the TransportStaf client, a version of SQL Server Standard 2022 allowing a better CPU configuration at minimal cost. We guided and supported the client step by step in the installation phase, thus allowing their team to increase their skills while ensuring an efficient, professional and stable installation of SQL Server.
Then we were able to quickly move forward with a new deployment and adding the required cumulative updates.
On this reliable and qualitative basis, maintenance tasks were added using maintenance scripts recommended by the DBA community and the new SQL Server 2022 standard server could thus be deployed in one day. Users are now very satisfied.
Monitoring of the TransportStaf client database is now ensured by us, with CMM Metric Manager as well as technical support, from the client’s IT team.
